24, 30, and 36 Inch - Carbon Steel Pipe
A refinery, located in Singapore had experienced multiple failures throughout their plants seawater cooling system. Inspection revealed failure was caused by aggressive flow resulting in erosion, section loss, and ultimately perforation of the steel intake pipe. Genesis was contracted to develop robotic systems which could be surface deployed, traverse vertical pipe sections, and navigate tight 90 fittings to remove a failing factory installed epoxy liner and apply an abrasion ...resistant polyurea liner system into the subsurface lateral pipe.

Projects
Challenges:

1. No equipment existed which could navigate this piping.
2. Manual application of liner materials was not permissible.
3. Work must be accomplished in little time in constrained  ..areas.
4. Work was to be accomplished in 100% humidity.
5. Camera systems to navigate the system were not offered.

Solution and Process:

1. Design and build capable cleaning, lining, and inspection tools.
2. Robotically remove the failing liner with high pressure water jet.
3. Maintain required environmental conditions inside the host pipe.
4. Deploy robotic lining centralizers to remotely apply the lining.
5. Inspect &validate the finished product with centralizer units.

Project Results:

The lining system was successfully installed without excavations in 14 of the allotted 24 days for the installation. Repairs and liner restored structural integrity to the lateral system and arrested further wall loss. The total restoration cost, including the equipment design-build, was less than 10% of the estimated replacement cost. Additional system portions are slated for lining in 2018.
